Our State AG practice: Built from the inside out

Our practice was built by people who ran these offices, who set enforcement priorities, formed coalitions, and made the calls that move markets and shape policy. That perspective is the foundation of how we work.

Co-led by Karl Racine, former Attorney General of the District of Columbia, and Jason Downs, former Chief Deputy AG of the District of Columbia, our team brings firsthand knowledge of how State AG offices operate. With decades of litigation experience, they know how cases get opened, how they escalate, and how they get resolved, because they've been on the other side of that table.

That depth informs every engagement. We help clients understand not just the legal exposure in front of them, but the political and institutional dynamics driving enforcement decisions — who is building coalitions, what priorities are emerging, and where the pressure is likely to come from next. In an environment where a single-state inquiry can become a fifty-state action, that kind of intelligence is the difference between being reactive and being ready. Our edge isn't just experience. It's a perspective that can only come from the inside.
